We'll meet at the designated time at Carlos Calvo 599 to begin this fileteado porteño workshop in the heart of the San Telmo neighborhood.
Before the workshop starts, we'll take an hour-long walk around San Telmo to talk about the fascinating tradition of fileteado porteño. This decorative style emerged in Buenos Aires in the early 20th century and, thanks to its unmistakable blend of color, elegance, and popular humor, has been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Along the way, we'll pass iconic spots in the neighborhood such as the Parroquia de San Pedro Telmo, Calle Defensa, the Casa Mínima, and the Mercado de San Telmo. When the walk finishes, we'll head into the workshop to meet the Maestro Fileteador.
Guided by a professional artist, you'll discover not only the origins and stories behind this art form, but also its fundamentals: the harmony of contrasts, the balance of symmetrical curves, the precision of fine linework, and the ornate lettering that evokes the world of tango.
You'll then put everything into practice in a hands-on fileteado workshop. You'll design and paint your own fileteado motif on a sheet, with no previous experience required, as the instructor will guide you every step of the way. Time to get to work, artists!
After 3 hours, you'll take home your creation as a souvenir, along with a certificate of participation.
